Data Breach Notification Requirements

The Massachusetts Data Breach Law states that businesses are required to notify an individual of a personal information data breach or unauthorized use of personal information so the individual can take steps to protect themselves from identify theft.

The data breach can include one or more of the following: social security numbers, driver licenses, and financial account numbers in combination with a person’s name.

The content channels expected to be in compliance include: email, instant messaging, social media, text/SMS, audio, video, website and blogs. The global regions in effect under the Massachusetts Data Breach Law are North America and the United States.
